Tour of the Unknown Coast, Winter Solstice, 2004 |
A final look at the Victorian Inn and we headed out of town. |
Here's the crucial turn onto Mattole Road—the road we will follow for the remainder of the ride. It will take us to the coastline via Capetown and Petrolia. |
The road immediately starts climbing and we stopped to shed some clothes and get the damn lamps off our helmets. |
The climb goes on for many miles. Nothing steep here. It just keeps going on up. |
The road was quite beautiful as it sinuously made its way along the ridge. |
The day had really blossomed. Sunlight stabbed through the trees. |
As we neared the coastline, the forest disappeared and finally we had a view of the Pacific Ocean. |
We next had a descent down to Capetown. |
