A neat thing about the Canon Powershot A5 is that you can augment the lens by placing other optics over it. John at Designframe showed me this. I have an old brass German folding loop that it turns out works remarkably well.

I added a piece of leather to the side of it so that when the folded loop is held against the camera there is enough room for the camera lens to move in and out as it focuses.

The loop and the camera take pictures that are remarkably close.
