On Sunday, July 2, my brother Michael and I rode to Mt. Diablo and back from Berkeley, a seventy-something-mile ride.
At 3,849feet, Mt. Diablo presents a challenging climb that thankfully sits within striking distance of the East Bay. There is no other mountain in the immediate vicinity so it dominates the landscape. The road to the top snakes 11 or 12 miles up the mountain's massive bulk and affords cyclists a wonderful training ground.
